Support for Parents
There are many options available for free professional support and counselling in the UK, including through your GP, through Contact-a-Family (for families with disabled children), through CLICSargent (for families with children affected by cancer), the Child Bereavement Charity (for families who have lost a child), and Sibs (for a sibling with a disabled or chronically ill brother or sister). Free professional FA-specific support is also available through the US-based FA Research Fund.

- The Charity Contact a Family offers considerable support on non-FA specific matters such as rights, benefits and entitlements as well as being able to provide family support around the UK. They can be contacted on 0808 808 3555 or email their helpline.
- More about F.A.B. UK
- F.A.B. UK is a long-established Nottingham-based parent support group F.A.B. UK. This is a Contact Group, established in January 1989. which raises funds for medical and genetic research at Guy’s Hospital, London. In addition, it encourages fundraising for F.A.B. UK’s Family Comfort Fund. It has information available, details on request. The Group responds to affected families and professional workers nationally and internationally. Advice given on nutrition/diet which supports those with FA. They can be contacted on 0115 926 9634 (Helpline with 24 hour answerphone) or write to 4 Pateley Road, Woodthorpe, Nottingham, NG3 5QF.

- A key family resource available to families in the UK is the US-based Fanconi Anemia Research Fund (FARF). Their Family Support coordinator Teresa Kennedy, can be contacted here. Their Fact Sheet gives a good overview of the condition and their new Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management, just published, is also recommended reading. FARF also run an active bulletin board. To subscribe, e-mail your details to FARF, who will send you a form to complete and return. This will place you on their mailing list, and subscribe you to their online e-group if you wish.
